About Me

I bring almost 50 years of coaching and firearms exerience to my courses. My teaching and coaching experience started in Army Cadets here in Oshawa with the Ontario Regiment where my father was the second in command. I completed the St. John's Standard First Aid course when I was 14 and was given the task of teaching the rudimentaries of First Aid to the cadets which I did for two years. These classes consisted of a dozen to twenty cadets who ranged in age from twelve to seventeen years. I attended the six week Rifle Coach course at Camp Borden in 1973 where Canadian Forces personnel taught us range safety, range procedures and how to coach. While on the National Junior Fullbore team in 1974 and 1975 we had to coach each other as well as give range safety briefings. The team consisted of eighteen members and Canadian Forces coaches. We were under their coaching and training for eight weeks each summer. When I returned from the Rifle Coach course I was also tasked with organizing, training and coaching our Corps rifle team. In the mid nineties I joined the same cadet corps as a civilian instructor where I coached and trained the rifle team. At one of the cadet matches I met a good friend of mine from the rifle team who corralled me into helping run all the cadet matches in Ontario. I became a member of the Ontario Rifle Association Council and taught the Range Safety Officer class for two years. I was also the person who examined members at Camp Borden to certify them to the ORA that they conducted themselves in a safe manner and that they understood range safety and range standing orders. The ORA in turn passed this on to the CFO for their Restricted ATT. During that time I also became a member of the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association executive and became involved in national matches. In 2002 and 2003 I was the Chief Range Officer Pistol at the National Service Conditions Matches held at the Connaught National Ranges in Ottawa.

About My Courses

By request, I will teach private classes for businesses, groups, Women only, and youth (under 18; CFSC only) in a relaxed and non-intimidating environment. Safety is our primary concern and a great deal of time is spent with "hands on" practice so no matter if it is your first time handling a firearm we make sure you are confident in your ability. We provide coffee in the morning and water throughout the day. The facility also has a kitchen with a fridge and microwave for the students use.
